"This year, I think I have grown a lot as a math student.

I always stay organized now, which helps me do things more quickly.

My approach to problems has gotten much easier..."

"I went to lyceum anytime I was confused, and like I said before,

having an organized binder helped me organize my review."

"Math is the subject that challenges me the most. At the start of the year, I was struggling to keep up. Mrs. Printz recommended that I attend Lyceum and work with a tutor. I started working with a tutor weekly towards the end of the first quarter. The ability to work 1:1 with a tutor really helped me practice the weekly work. Also, Mrs. Printz's handouts and assistance in lyceum helped me remember the day's lesson when I started my nightly homework. The first semester taught me that working hard and asking for help

go a long way in getting better."

"I took several steps to improve my math grade. First I got a student tutor early in the semester. We meet once a week and it has helped a lot. Second, I pay extra close attention during class by making sure I have my homework correct and occasionally going to lyceum to work on difficult problems. Finally, before tests, I work out the problems from the recent quizzes and study guides. All of this has led up to improving my math grade and truly understanding the concepts."

"I had a lapse of judgment that caused me to be failing math. I was not taking notes and not giving any effort. Instead of paying attention, I would try to complete the homework for that night. For two weeks my mom and I would work on math for hours every night. Eventually all of the missing homework was turned in which brought me to a passing grade in the class. Now I am taking notes and doing homework completely. I have started to go to math lyceum to resolve misunderstanding during lyceum. I am happy to have found success, but at the same time I realize that doing my work is a daily requirement in all classes."

## What Some Students Say

9/10/19 Anonymous note from student this year:

How I Excelled

"For me Algebra was a struggle, and studying wasn’t easy for me because it went in one

ear and out the other. Concepts were also hard for me to grasp because I would be thinking of

one thing to many. But then I started going to tutoring, not sitting in the corner, but asking

questions on things I was struggling on or confused on. And, for some additional help, I got a

tutor for after school, we met every Tuesday and Thursday, and my tutor helped me learn new

skills that made Math a breeze. I would do a problem and then she would check it, and if I was

wrong, she would teach me techniques that I would use on my test. I also started studying harder,

a little amount of 5 minutes a night would help me. What I did to help memorize my vocab is I

would pretend they were funny little characters, that were named after the vocab words, and

making them do or say what the vocab word meant. And this technique helped the visual get

stuck in my head. Also, Mrs. Printz, for me, made Math fun and exciting and it was easier to get

some of the concepts a little better when i was completely focused. So, these might be some

things that will help you the student excel and make Math fun."

"I learned that with just a little bit of information, I can figure out a lot. The only info we had were the rates.

We had to figure out everything else on our own...and we did it!"

"I didn't really like math before because it was boring. Now that I understand how math is just the language of science and that I can actually get it, I am thinking totally differently about my future and want to do something in the field of science."

"I can't believe how interesting math actually is! I didn't even think of this experiment as math. It was like real world experience that had several layers and each layer took us deeper in our understanding."

"My favorite part was definitely the body modeling. I understood how we graphed our data and how we made our equation, but when I saw students walk graphs, it brought a whole new light to my understanding. This was really cool!"
